Kluge Karakachan Mare - Companion and for Ground Work - Unfortunately, our sensitive, riding-pony-sized mare has become unrideable over the past year, and we are now looking for a kind person who would enjoy spending time with a very intelligent and sensitive horse—whether in a small, quiet stable, on their own pasture, near their home, or within a stable herd. She is accustomed to Tellington training, body bands, and Gaitner straps; she responds very sensitively and loves walks on paved paths or soft forest trails. As a mountain horse, muddy ground is unfortunately not good for her, and as a barefoot horse, she also doesn’t like very rocky paths. She had a difficult time in Portugal, so she is very sensitive and fearful in unfamiliar situations, but she learns very quickly, is very social within the herd, is great with foals, makes a great surrogate mother, and doesn’t pick fights with any other horses. She has been consistently fed a sugar- and grain-free diet, so she is in excellent overall health and has good teeth (dental checkups needed only once a year). We’re looking for a loving person—preferably someone already in retirement—who can and wants to give her a good home and a forever home. We would provide blankets, a halter, and bell boots for her. She’d also be great as a companion horse—the main thing is that she finds someone who can provide her with stability and treat her patiently and without force. We can’t offer her the peaceful environment she needs where we live, and due to my work (which requires travel), I can no longer manage the small, self-sufficient community setup.
