Unplanned. Latecomers. Born in Switzerland. Full Swiss papers; properly cleared through customs upon import into Germany.
Both foals come from a very small farm in Switzerland where there are only one or two births per year. And by the end of winter, they’re all crammed together while the mare(s) are in foal again and foal once more just a few weeks later. We already have a filly from this breeding program out of the 2023 crop. And she’s part of the group of young horses that are just starting their training. In fact, she’s currently the best one—the one who learns the fastest. She wants to work. Both brothers also recognized her, even though they’d never met her before. Apparently, they know which stable she comes from and speak the same “dialect.”
And actually, a friend of ours had originally decided on Easy. But since he shouldn’t travel alone—and should instead arrive as part of a functioning herd—we decided to take Eclair along as well. Easy and Eclair are beautiful names—though at the moment, they’re more of an omen than a fact. Neither of them is yet accustomed to human handling, though they’ve gotten used to lead ropes, halters, deworming, and tetanus shots. They’ve also been neutered. They still interact with us and come to get their morning treats. Easy is the more sensitive of the two, though he’s closer to people. Eclair, on the other hand, is more reserved and calm. But a cream-filled pastry (Eclair) and a plain one (Easy) certainly hold promise for the future. And I’m sure they’ll make it. Just like their sister, who had to travel and arrive alone back then and fought her way through a long, arduous journey.
They arrived on the night of January 13, 2026, in the snow and cold. They spent one night in a separate area of the open barn and were integrated directly into the herd at daybreak. By now, both have been vaccinated against tetanus, have had two rounds of deworming, and their hooves have been trimmed. Even though it was a bit of an adventure to reintroduce both of them to the halter on a 12-hectare property. Now, with a certain daring caution, they come to collect their extra treat in the morning after we’ve fed them. Within the herd, they behave very well and interact socially with the adults.
We acquired both of them for a relatively modest price, in the breeder’s best interest. Although the associated costs—such as transport, customs, and import sales tax—do add to the total expense.
We’ve decided to offer both for sale because a) they make a good team and have known each other their whole lives, and b) we already have eight foals from the 2025 crop. Still, they don’t have to go. Looking ahead, it simply makes sense to make room for those who will find their way to us in 2026. There are natural limits to what we can do. Our bond with them isn’t that strong yet, and our investment is manageable. So the price is still relatively modest. Both cost the same.
