13-year-old pony mare, can be ridden under certain conditions, ideal as a companion horse - It is with a heavy heart that I am looking for the right home for my pony mare
I am looking for a loving home for my 13-year-old Knabstrupper mix mare, where her needs will be understood and she can continue to enjoy a wonderful life as a horse.
Key details at a glance: * Age: 13 years * Breed: Knabstrupper mix * Height: approx. 1.42 m * Temperament: very sweet to handle, used to children, calm and gentle disposition, a truly kind soul; never kicks, bites, or does anything similar; doesn’t even defend herself around other horses * Behavior: tends to be lower in the herd hierarchy but gets along well with other horses; currently kept in a group in an open stable, but is also accustomed to being in a stall at night * Feeding: has a light appetite; accustomed to daily pasture time; uses a slow feeder in the spring for safety and weight control * Location: 521xx
A few honest words about her health and use: When my mare was 8 years old, a navicular cyst was diagnosed in her left front hoof, which limits her ability to bear weight. Currently, she is symptom-free thanks to special shoeing and the administration of PEA. Nevertheless, it’s important to me to be upfront that she is not a pony that can be ridden without restrictions and must be treated with care in accordance with her health condition. At the moment, I only take her on leisurely walks at a walk on level ground, go for walks with her in the woods, or do gentle work in the indoor arena. Riding her is also possible, but only with appropriate care. Tight turns, jumping, and long training sessions are not suitable, nor is work on the lunge line.
She is therefore looking for someone who does not prioritize athletic performance but rather enjoys spending time with a sweet pony and is willing to accommodate her health needs.
Why I’m giving her up: It is with a heavy heart that I’m giving her up for my own health reasons. This decision is anything but easy for me. This is explicitly not a distress sale—it’s much more important to me that she ends up in the right hands and that the person and the pony are truly a good match.
Suitable accessories or a complete set consisting of a Summer Marakesh saddle, Barefoot Ride On pad, several bridles and bits, a cavesson, halters, blankets, etc., can be purchased separately since I’m giving up riding.
The price is secondary to me—finding the right home is my top priority! It’s especially important to me that my mare is placed in a loving and species-appropriate environment with other horses and finds people who take her health limitations seriously. She should not be used as a sport pony, nor should she be intended for resale.
I’m hoping for a long-term home with people who will accept her just as she is and ensure she continues to enjoy a fulfilling life as a horse, even if she can no longer be ridden at some point in the future.
She will only be placed after a personal meeting and with a protection agreement. Please understand that I will consider this decision very carefully. It’s not the highest price that matters, but the best home for my mare.
If you’re seriously interested, I’d appreciate a private message (PM). I’d be happy to tell you more about her and answer any questions you may have.
Please only send serious inquiries from people who can offer her a suitable, loving home.
