A really handsome 15-year-old Haflinger gelding - Hello,
If everything works out—and only then—I would sell my super-stylish Haflinger. Since we have three of them, but my daughter can’t handle him and I’m slowly phasing out riding, I’d like to find him a new home. My little guy taught my daughter, her best friend, and the daughter of an acquaintance how to ride back when they were all 5 or 6 years old. I myself have ridden him up to Class A dressage level.
He’s very refined to ride. Not pushy. He enjoys trail riding—though he might occasionally do a little happy hop. But on regular trail rides, he’s the best-behaved horse you can ride on a long rein.
My little guy had a mild bout of laminitis (exercise-induced) four years ago. But now he’s back to standing normally in the pasture for up to 9 hours.
He’s shod with four-piece shoes, which is necessary. In the summer, he wears full gear: a blanket and a fly veil. He used to chafe for a while. Since we started feeding him our Ostheo mineral feed last year, he’s been quite relaxed this year.
What am I looking for?
A wonderful family who will love him as much as I do…preferably an open stable, or at least a paddock stall, with daily exercise and plenty of time outside in the winter. Not a show pony! He’s wary of veterinarians, but he warms up to the vet after a while. He stands still for the farrier; but here, too, he’s a bit skeptical at first. If he’s allowed to look around, no problem.
His hay needs to be dampened, and he needs to be on wood shavings, flax straw, or something similar; he tends to cough if there’s too much dust. But so far, he’s been fine in that regard as well.
He will only be sold to a loving home.
While he was with me, he wasn’t sick—except for laminitis and the occasional cough.
